I stared at Luca down on one knee, holding a gorgeous diamond ring. I blinked a few times to clear my vision because this had to be a dream.
But it was so real.
No one spoke a word as they awaited my response. This wasn’t how I thought I would get engaged. Luca wasn’t the man I thought I would marry.
When I was a girl, I dreamed of marrying a handsome prince who would sweep me off my feet. That was how I escaped all the trauma. I had to believe in fairy tales and things that didn’t exist. Then, I grew up and realized the world was full of monsters and that people are never what they seem.
As I considered Luca’s proposal, I thought about my last year at Astor Prep. Luca treated me like shit and did horrible things to me. Of all the Salvatores, I wanted him most. But I also hated him the most.
I wouldn’t have thought twice if Marcello or Bastian were on their knees. Even Damian would have been a better choice.
I bit the inside of my cheek as I looked down at him, knowing he would flip the fuck out when I shook my head. “No.”
